Lim Sang Ok - Businessman Story

Lim Sang-ok studies Chinese to become an interpreter.

Episode:1 of 18
When Songsbang tries to deal with Chinese for ginsengs, they have no interpreter. And so they asks Sang-ok to be their interpreter .Sang-ok takes part in the deal. The deal is successful. After the deal, Da-nyung says to Sang-ok, "Will you join us as an interpreter? "But Sang-ok is going to become an interpreter, so he refuses that offer.

Sang-ok's father gives up to become an interpreter. He will start the business. He rents 500 nyang from his friend, Deuk-joo,head of Mansung.

Sang-ok gets tiger fur.
Sang-ok and his father are hired as house handlers by merchant groups, Songbang, to China.
In 1799, tiger fur is contra band. Sang-ok passes without finding it.
In Yanjing, Sang-ok meets vice envoy of the group and receives a book written with Chinese.

Episode 3 of 18
At a border, sulfur on Sang-ok's horse is found out Sulfur is illegal, but beforehand Sang-ok heard from Joo-myung, the head of Songbang,that they had a permission from the government.
Joo-myung lies, "I didn't tell Sang-ok that."Sang-ok and his father are arrested.
Two are sentenced to death because of treason. Just before Sang-ok's execution, Sang-ok is saved from the execution. Sang-ok's father is beheaded. Sang-ok becomes a government slave.
It's in 1800.Sang-ok escapes from a working field.

Sang-ok is hired at a brassware shop. The head of the shop says to Sang-ok,"If you are a leader, you are free from a slave.So work hard." Da-nyung comes to the shop.
Sang-ok goes to Songbang in order to deliver brassware with the shop owner.
Sang-ok meets his younger brother. When Sang-ok escapes with his brother, he is hit by a gun.

Sang-ok is going to be taken to a mine. On his way to the mine, Sang-ok is saved by subjects of a man (pirate) along with Sang-ok. The man says to Sang-ok, "Will you go with us?" Sang-ok refuses that. Sang-ok escapes with Chae-yeon.
All slaves are released by the King's order.
Sang-ok returns to the house where he lived. There Sang-ok meets his mother again.
Sang-ok meets Hong Deuk-joo.

Sang-ok says to Deuk-joo, "I want to be a merchant. Would you teach me about business?" Sang-ok works for a brassware shop of Sam-bo.
Sang-ok goes to sell a lot of brassware.
Sang-ok returns to the shop. He says, "I sold all."

Sam-bo asks Sang-ok, "How did you sell them?" Sang-ok says, "I went to a village where a lot of rich men live, but I couldn't sell them. I heard a lot of people had a stomachace because of salty water. I went a clinic. There I exchanged all brassware for medicine. I sold medicine."

Chae-yeon becomes a member of the clown group. Park Joo-myung asks Chae-yeon to pour wine. Sang-ok is angry and goes there. Sang-ok meets Joo-myung and says to him,"I get revenge for my father." Da-nyung hears that.

A secretary of Mansang, Jeong Chi-soo, goes to sell brassware. He sold all. He exchanged brassware for old cotton. He sold old cotton.
Sang-ok finds out that his younger sister, Sang-hee, is a prostitute. Sang-ok needs 50 nyang to save Sang-hee.

Sang-ok says to Sam-bo, "If you lend me 50 nyang, I tell you how to earn 1,000 nyang." Sam-bo refuses that.
Joo-myung opens a brassware shop. The shop owner is Kim Tae-chul.
Sam-bo finds out he may be dismissed, so he hears Sang-ok's idea. "Brassware is made of tin. We buy all tin."

Episode 8 of 18
Sang-ok decides to make a smith shop in order to use tin.
Songbang has a government delivery so they need tin. But there is no tin. They try to postpone the government delivery. Joo-myung is angry, "Deliver merchandise until deadline."
Tae-chul comes to buy tin Sang-ok has. Sang-ok earns 1,000 nyang. Sang-ok gets back his sister.

Episode 9 of 18
Joo-myung shows Deuk-joo ginseng and says, "We want to deal all trade." Deuk-joo refuses that. Deuk-joo has grown ginseng for 10 years.
Sang-ok goes to China in order to sell ginseng.

Episode 10 of 18
Burglars Joo-myung hired ruin Mansang's ginseng fields and kill workers. Sang-ok is attacked.

Episode 11 of 18
If Mansang does nothing, Mansang's black market is gone and Mansang will go into bankruptcy.
Deuk-joo tries to deal with Joo-myung for ginseng, but Joo-myung doesn't meet Deuk-joo for a while.
Joo-myung shows the condition that Mansang goes to Yanjin. Sam-bo and Sang-ok go to Yanjin.

Episode 12 of 18
On Sam-bo and Sang-ok's way to Yanjin, there are policemen in order to catch black market merchants. Sam-bo is captured. Sang-ok saves Sam-bo.
They arrive at Yanjin. There is a rumor that law ginseng has poison, so they can't sell ginseng.
Sang-ok sell all ginseng thanks to a poem written by Wu Weiye.

Episode 13 of 18
Jeong Chi-soo decides to work for Joo-myung.
A man who bought ginseng from Sang-ok gives Sang-ok 200 nyang and says,"Get start your business."
Sang-ok saves a prostitute with 200 nyang.

Sang-ok returns to Joseon.
A rumor that Sang-ok saved a prostitute spreads all over Uiju.
Joo-myung prohibits Chinese from coming to Joseon ports. Mansang is at a loss.

Episode 14 of 18
A rumor that Sang-ok embezzled spreads .Sang-ok explains the situation to Deuk-joo.
Deuk-joo says to Sang-ok, "Work as a secretary at a main office. I'll give you 10 days in order to think about the solution of the present situation."
Sang-ok takes three ideas to Deuk-joo.

Episode 14 of 18Sangdo Episode 17
Sang-ok negociate with a procurement envoy in order to sell silk. The envoy asks for bribe. The head of Mansong refuses bribe. Da-nyung, the representative of Songbang,also refuses bribe.
The envoy gives up bribe and make Songbang and Mansang compete the price of silk.
The first bid is that Songbang is 12 nyang and Mansang is 12 nyang per role.
The second bid is that Songbang is 13 nyang and Mansang is 15 nyang. Songbang wins.
Sang-ok made a commitment with Da-nyung that Mansang takes silk to Songbang and Songbang buys the silk with 13 nyang.

Episode 15 of 18
Sang-ok finds out there is an interpreter examination in Hanyang. Sang-ok goes to sell paper in Hanyang. Jeong Chi-soo knows that.
Sang-ok gets paper with usual double price.
Jeong Chi-soo pretends there is a war and tries to call off the exam. The price of paper falls down.

Episode 16 of 18
Sang-ok sells all pieces of paper. Sang-ok knows that officers tell beacons are wrong and tries to cancel to sell them, but he can't.
Mansang receives a billing letter from Songbang, but Mansang can't pay. Mansang asks Songbang to postpone paying. Songbang says to Mansang, "If you can't pay after one month, I get your port trading right."
Chi-soo tries to sell fish in Onjin.
Sang-ok finds out Doo-cheol's betray and punishes him.

Episode 17 of 18
Da-nyung says to Sang-ok, "I can't get you out of my mind."
Chi-soo tries to buy all fish, but is refused at first. Chi-soo shows higher price and can buy all fish. A route to Hanyang is only by ships.

Sang-ok buys all ships. Chi-soo sells all fish with low price because fish is rotten. Sang-ok carries fish to Hanyang with ships.

Episode 18 of 18
Deuk-joo decides to give Songbang the port trading right. Just then Sang-ok returns. Sang-ok pays 2,500 nyang.

Sang-ok becomes manager.
Sang-ok goes to Hanyang for merchandise allotment of envoy march.
